It Had To Be Cody

It had to be Cody, right?  I assumed going into the match that the mystery opponent for Seth Rollins at night one of Wrestleman 38 would be Cody.  While I was still confused about his departure from AEW and possible decision in joining WWE, I was intrigued, and maybe a little excited, to see Cody at Wrestlemania.

I’ve been a fan of Cody since his early days in WWE, and I was even a fan of Stardust.  I was a huge fan of The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, BTE, and The Bullet Club in general.  It was great to see Cody join up with them and find himself again.  It was great to see his success and the formation of AEW.

I was expecting Cody to show and wrestle Seth Rollins night one.  When Rollins’s music stopped, and the silence and the wait kept getting longer and longer, that’s when I started getting a weird feeling.  Are they swerving us?   Are we going to hear “Here Comes The Money”??  Are the lights going to go out and The Undertaker or The Fiend will show up.  I still knew it was going to be Cody, but the silence messed with my mind.   Then it hits. “Wrestling has more than one royal family.”   It had to be Cody!  Everything was exactly the same as AEW Cody. The music, the entrance, the logo, the gear.  The first emotions to set in were confusion, followed by anger.  I was confused that he was exactly the same Cody that we were accustomed to almost every week in AEW.  The confusion in turn made me angry with Cody.  I’m not exactly sure why, but that’s what I felt at the moment.

He got a big pop from the crowd.  Was that what he was looking for the whole time, just to be cheered by the crowd again?  It certainly felt like it.  He seemed genuinely happy.  Ultimately I hope Cody succeeds and finds what he is looking for.  I think he had a good match.  He even had a Stardust throwback and of course a tribute to his dad with the bionic elbow.  Am I going to tune into Raw now to see what Cody is up to?   Yes, at least for a little bit to see how things play out.  I’m interested to see what they do with him.  I’m also interested in hearing his reasons for leaving and choosing to go back to that place.

To sum up my thoughts on Cody arriving in WWE and having a match at Wrestlemania 38:

I expected to pop for Cody.  Instead, I was just very confused and I still have no idea what the hell is going on with Cody.
