Mr. Suzuki’s Wild Ride
The Many Travels of Everyone’s Favorite Murder Grandpa
Minoru Suzuki. This is a name that is synonymous with fear, pain, sadism, nightmares, and socks. As a slawart for New Japan Pro Wrestling, off and on, for the last twelve years, Suzuki has held a presence that only few other international wrestlers have ever had. This presence is truly brought on by the fear he brings forth to his performance. From the towel on the head sullen entrance, to the savage beatdown of any young lion within range post-match, everything that Minoru does is a complete spectacle to behold. This coupled with his training not only at the New Japan Dojo, but also his training in catch and shoot wrestling, including a decade stint in one of the original mixed martial arts organizations Pancrase, gives Minoru a true sense of legitimacy.
So here we have a 53 year old man, trained in both traditional puroresu, and MMA styles, who from the very beginning of his entrance to the collateral damage from his post-match onslaught has made fans of millions across the world. To see Suzuki in person is on most wrestling fans’ bucket lists. Similar to when a band would go on a rare transcontinental tour, when he goes on excursion to Europe or North America everyone takes note.
Since Wrestlemania Weekend Suzuki has been traveling from coast to coast all across the United States. Last weekend in Dallas alone Suzuki had six matches for four different promotions (New Japan, Ring of Honor, Game Changer Wrestling, and VIP) over a four day span. During this epic run Suzuki even won his first North American Title Belt in beating Rhett Titus for the ROH World Television Championship. However, Suzuki’s excursion is not over. In fact ladies and gentlemen we have one hell of a week coming up. This upcoming week, including today the 9th, he will have two shows for Game Changer (GCW), a show for West Coast Pro Wrestling and ROH Television Title defense for AEW.
